National Ski Patrol Instructor Development as an ON DEMAND\u00a0 online course to allow future instructors a fast track into mentoring to become an NSP Instructor.\u00a0\u00a0 NH Region members can take advantage of the hybridized online version of the Instructor Development<\/strong> course to start the process immediately.<\/p>\n

Instructor Development\u00a0 (ID) covers various core concepts used for effective adult education.\u00a0 The goal is to understand how instructors can apply these to create a positive learning experience for their adult learners.\u00a0 ID helps build a strong foundation of educational knowledge for teachers to use when planning and delivering lessons. The general information covered in Instructor Development applies to all potential NSP instructors, regardless of instructional discipline or specialty.<\/p>\n

ID has been added to the new NSP Online Education course offerings.\u00a0 NH Region’s ID staff will set up this course for any individual who might prefer a self-paced learning experience.\u00a0 Contact the ID Advisor using the link below to arrange your individualized course or start immediately by clicking this REGISTER<\/strong><\/a> link. No classroom lectures, no more waiting for a scheduled course.\u00a0 During the ski season, we can set up a course quickly and schedule it around the student’s convenience.<\/p>\n

The ID E-Course Completion Process<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP ONE:\u00a0<\/strong> ID students can get started on their own by using the resources available from NSP.\u00a0 Download the textbook \u201cInstructor Development, Training the Adult Learner.\u201d\u00a0<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>Reading the text is recommended in preparation for the upcoming steps.<\/p>\n

STEP TWO:\u00a0<\/strong> The next step consists of ONLINE E-COURSE study using NSP\u2019s Center for Learning<\/strong>.\u00a0 Use the BROWSE feature to locate the course: Instructor Development:\u00a0 Student \u2013 Hybrid (Online Modules).\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong> Enroll yourself, and begin the video lectures and quizzes.<\/p>\n

STEP THREE:\u00a0<\/strong> After completing the online, please print the \u201cCertificate of Completion.\u201d\u00a0 You should print a copy and download a PDF file version of the certificate.\u00a0 A copy of the certificate needs to go to the ID Instructor that your local region will assign to attend a face-to-face portion of the course.<\/p>\n

STEP FOUR:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is the Regional portion of the course known as the “face-to-face” portion, where, under the guidance of an ID Instructor, students will explore a few Learning Activities to develop their skills for:<\/p>\n

      2. Teaching<\/li>\n
      3. Monitoring students for understanding<\/li>\n
      4. Positive immediate student feedback<\/li>\n
      5. and learn about the Mentoring Process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        If you haven’t done so already, click this REGISTER<\/strong><\/a> link and get the face-to-face course started with an NH Region ID Instructor.<\/p>\n

        During the winter season, NH Region ID Staff typically schedules the final meeting at the student’s local ski area, off-season locations are posted on the CALENDAR.<\/p>\n

        On the FINAL DAY, when you meet with your Region ID staff member, they will review the course requirements, demonstrate a lesson presentation, and discuss the importance of immediate positive feedback.\u00a0 You get to teach your prepared lesson plan and receive feedback from the assigned staff Instructor.<\/p>\n

        Once your course is completed, you are ready to move on to the NSP instructional discipline of your choice for mentoring: Avalanche, MTR, Nordic, OEC, or Ski & Toboggan.\u00a0 Each NSP discipline has a structured Instructor Mentoring program.<\/p>\n
