Avalanche Level 1 for Rescue Personnel @ Mt. Washington NH

Description:

Have you ever been in the backcountry?

Have you ever wondered if the snow on the slope you are about to ski is stable?

Do you want to learn how to use an avalanche beacon, and discover how the snowpack changes throughout the season?

Do you want to have fun while learning?

If you have answered "YES" to any of these questions, Level I Avalanche is a course for you.

On the first day in the classroom, you will be introduced to the Avalanche Triangle, the how's and mean's of avalanche formation, important snow and avalanche terminology, decision making, trip planning, as well as companion and organized rescue operations.

On the first day, the course begins with classroom work in Gorham, NH at the Town & Country Inn.  On the second and third day, we will ski tour in the Tuckerman Ravine and Huntington Ravine area of the cutler river drainage of the White Mountain national forest to work hands-on with our new knowledge, experiencing avalanche terrain in a new light.

Prerequisites for the course include physically fit conditioning, and the equipment to travel and spend a full day in the outdoor winter environment. You must be able to ski Black Diamond terrain.  Remember, it does get cold in March!

This course is recognized by the AAA (American Avalanche Association) and AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education).
