Although the snow’s a bit late in coming this year, it’s never too early to start building or refreshing avalanche skills for the coming season!

The Eastern Snow and Avalanche Workshop (ESAW), brought to us by the Mount Washington Avalanche Center Foundation, takes place on Nov 17-19, 2022. The format is evolving further this season, with two evenings of virtual live presentations on Thursday and Friday followed by in-person clinics on Saturday. The presentation lineup looks like the usual excellent blend including topics of local and general interest. The three rotating clinic topics are: electronic mapping skills for avalanche terrain; beacon search scenarios and strategies; and post-avalanche patient medical care. It looks to be another great ESAW and you can learn more and purchase tickets at the link below.

The Eastern Division Avalanche staff are working hard to finalize the NSP Level 1 course schedule for this season. Two courses are tentatively scheduled – Whiteface on January 27-29, 2023 and Smuggler’s Notch on February 3-5. The Mount Washington dates are not yet set but will likely be in early-mid March. The Patroller School Avalanche events page has not yet been updated but check in regularly at the link below for details and registration info. I will put out another post when the schedule is finalized.
