Senior OEC Pre-Course Classroom Clinic

This course is an introductory Senior OEC training course designed to prepare candidates for on-snow training and the high stress of the final exam.  It is held in a traditional classroom setting where students not only learn about the program's numerous performance objectives and the "critical standards" required to successfully pass; more importantly, students get a chance to peer into the inner workings of the human brain to learn about themselves.

Practicing to pass the Senior OEC exam is not enough.  Learning to understand what happens inside your own brain while conducting triage during a high stress medical management scenario is paramount.   This course helps candidates assemble winning strategies that can be used not only to pass the Senior exam, but to become better first-aiders, patrollers and rescuers.

Take this classroom pre-course to lay down a solid Senior testing foundation, then attend the required "on-the-snow clinics" to acquire the experience and practice needed for exam day.  We promise that every student will learn something valuable about themselves and about being effective test takers under stress. . .

Senior OEC Clinic - Mt. Sunapee

Training clinics are a significant and important part of the OEC Module of the Senior Program.  While the clinics are structured to help candidates prepare for a successful final evaluation, they serve a more important objective.  During clinics, candidates will be presented with realistic emergency scenarios that are complex in nature and require sound leadership, management and problem solving skills.

During clinic scenarios, candidates generally work in teams of three patrollers, one of whom serves as the team leader.  The scenarios will be designed to enhance and develop the management skills of the team leader.   It is a constructive process that sharpens the candidates’ skills and confidence, enabling solid reliable performance in complex and normally stressful emergency care situations.

Each candidate need to successfully perform as a leader in four clinic scenarios under the guidance of an OEC Trainer Evaluator to be eligible for the final evaluation.

Candidates are encouraged to attend several clinics, where they will have the opportunity to learn from one another as well as experienced trainers.  Feel free to contact the Advisor or any of the staff members to request additional Senior OEC training.
