George Frye Wesson Jr., 89, of Rutland died Monday morning September 6, 2010 at the Pines atRutland following a brief illness.  He was born in Worcester , Ma. July 4th 1921 the son of George and Ellen (Nystrom) Wesson.

As a child he was raised in Worcester, MA., attended local schools graduating from South High inWorcester , MA and the Worcester Poly Tec with a degree in engineering.  Following graduation he entered the US Army and served with the 10th Mountain Division during the Second World War and at the time of discharge had earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Mr. Wesson was a former resident of Stowe , VT. , Waitsfield , VT. , and Claremont MA . being aRutland , VT resident since 1963.  At the time of his retirement he was Engineering Supervisor for Building and Construction at the Killington Ski Resort, having participated in the construction of the ski area, and served as the first Ski Patrol Director. Prior to that he served as Ski Patrol Director atMount Mansfield , Sugarbush Resort, and Thunder Mountain Ski Area (now Berkshire East). He was a member of the National Ski Patrol System since its formation in 1938, serving for a time as Northern Vermont Region Director, and was the founder of the organization’s Certified program.  At the time of his death he was among the National Ski Patrol’s oldest living and most honored members.  He was also among the founders, an early member and one of the most dedicated supporters of the Professional Ski Patrollers Association (PSPA).  He was also a strong supporter and significant contributor to both the New England Ski Museum and the Vermont Ski Museum .

Mr. Wesson was active in scouting and served as Scout Leader, and as a Senior Scout Advisor in Stowe.  He was a Mason and Past Master of the Stowe F&AM Lodge and also was a member and trustee of the Stowe Community Church , and a member of the Grace Congregational, United Church of Christ in Rutland .

Survivors includes 4 daughters, Janet Whitney and Rebecca Ross of Rutland, Laura Wesson of Bellows Falls and Jennifer Hoon of Arvada, CO., and by his son Andrew Wesson of Rutland, a sister Eleanor Wesson of Worcester, MA, 5 grandsons, 2 grand daughters and two great grand daughters and one great grandson.

He was predeceased by his wife Nancy (Raymond) Wesson on March 19th 1998..

There will be no Calling Hours.   Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Private burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Killington.

George will be missed by his family and many friends.  Acelebration of George’s life will be July 4, 2011… This would have been his 90th birthday
